Howell is a 1988 @ncstatechass graduate and served as student body president during his senior year. The appointment was announced by University of North Carolina President Peter Hans on Tuesday, March 18, following approval by the U Board of Governors. Howell will assume his duties on May 5, 2025.

Well, Howell about that? Here are five things you should know about Chancellor-Elect Kevin Howell. 🐺✍️
The U System named Howell the next chancellor of State earlier this week. He will assume his duties on May 5, 2025.
Today, alumnus Kevin Howell gave his first public address in Talley Student Union as State’s chancellor-elect. 🐺🐾👏

Howell will be State’s 15th chancellor and the third State alumnus to serve in the role. He will assume his duties on May 5.

Kevin Howell has been named chancellor of North Carolina State University, @U_System President Peter Hans announced today. Howell, an State alum, is currently the chief external affairs officer at U Health.
“Kevin Howell is a born leader with a long record of service to North Carolina, the U System and ,” said U System President Peter Hans. “His deep relationships across the state have helped drive investment and growth. I am confident that he will strengthen State’s role as a frontier research university, keeping North Carolina competitive in the most important fields of our future.”
Howell will assume his duties on May 5, 2025. He succeeds Randy Woodson, who is retiring after 15 years of service as chancellor.
State is hosting a special event to celebrate the announcement today at 3 p.m. in Talley Student Union.

Getting around our 2,099-acre campus can be as easy as walking, hopping on a bike or catching the Wolfline. But, for those facing short- or long-term impairments, there’s Wolfpack Pick Up. 👏
The free ride service operates a fleet of golf carts for State students, faculty and staff who need assistance traveling between locations on both main campus and @ncstatecentennial.
